Hi everyone.
The sun has made its way out finally, and I took it upon myself to venture out this afternoon on a mission to plop onto a bench and read. It was all going according to plan, until a warm thunderstorm sneaked its way into downtown, crashing my party of one. It wasn’t all a loss though, since a lot of people had the same idea as me and it proved to be a valuable experience in finding out what people are wearing right now since the weather is a little bit more temperate.
Leather Jackets
Leather jackets aren’t the best insulator for below 45°F-ish degrees, but I find them appropriate for anything above that (except for hot climates), and the people I saw today seem to think the same. One of my favorite vintage brands to search on eBay for straight cut leather and suede jackets is Bernardo. My 90s toffee-colored suede jacket from the brand is still holding up after finding it at a local thrift store almost six years ago, and I’m looking to buy the same model in a rich reddish-brown or green.
Loose Pinstripe Pants
I saw about five people wearing pinstripe pants today, both men and women. One thing I noticed about all the people that caught my eye, was that their trousers were not of the pressed, office-wear variety. Most were significantly baggy with an easy silhouette, draping perfectly. The first spotted pair reminded me of French chef pants, which was a little nostalgic because it reminded me of the vintage store I worked at during college and the shipments of deadstock work pants that we would get in periodically. They were stiff and durable out of the boxes, but once you washed them and took them out for a spin, they turned into the softest, most relaxed pants for spring. Rawson Studio on Etsy is my favorite place to find a similar style.
Woven Bags
Nothing will ever replace my trusty straw bag, but this secondhand Bembien one I found on eBay might come close. While the woven bags I saw today aren’t exactly like this one, Bembien makes a few styles that resemble them pretty closely. Found on eBay, this two-tone woven leather crossbody proves spacious enough to hold the essentials. I can only imagine that woven bags are popular right now because of their call to summer that is only a few months ahead. And it’s not just here in Switzerland, but the Dragon Diffusion ‘Santa Croce’ tote was prolific in New York City when I visited last summer.
Plus, My Open Shopping Tabs
It’s no secret that I love ballet flats. Yes, they are horrible at arch support and bring back memories of middle-school sweaty feet, yet they’re so reliable. I treat all my ballet flats like shit, but they’re meant to be worn! I’m always keeping my eyes peeled for any new and niche ballet flat brands with interesting color ways, and E. Porselli hits the mark. They’re a little bit hard to find, and most shops selling them require a 30+ day lead time, unless you’re lucky to find a stockist who has them ready to ship.
A few weeks back, I saw Mya Gelber on Instagram wearing a Ganni denim dress. I don’t typically gravitate towards denim pieces other than jackets and jeans, but the shape and buttons on this one are really spectacular. While she has the lighter wash version, I’d probably go with the dark indigo denim. Last weekend in Milano, I tried on a COS cotton poplin tent dress, but didn’t end up purchasing. The fabric wasn’t stiff enough, and it just ended up gathering all in the back and hanging off of me like a heavy wet rag. The denim looks promising here and rigid enough to keep its shape. I’d also probably style it with boots.
Last, but definitely not least, this Nikki Chasin long-sleeve top showed up in my dream the other night, so I think I’m taking that as a sign to buy? I love an oversized fit (re: so that I cannot be perceived), and the ruche detail on the bra appliqué is sweet. It’s nice that it’s not a stark white color, but rather a gentle, butter-y yellow tone. Would pair well over a mini skirt and boots for spring, or sailor pants. Plus, her knits have the best boxy cut.
Outside of fashion, here are a few things I’m liking:
‘It’s in Your Heart Now’ - Destroyer - I’ve been going to the gym more, but I cannot for the life of me unironically listen to Top 40 to get me pumped up on the treadmill. This song weirdly enough helps me keep going even though its not upbeat at all. Maybe it’s the crescendo?
Is it just me, or is anybody else rewatching Girls right now? LOL
